Our Story Wines & Bakes Visit Find Us Reserve a Tasting

Richmond, Virginia · Est. 2018

Estate wines shaped by the James River valley — paired with bread baked the old way.

Small-batch wines from our own vines, a rotating selection of house-made breads, and a tasting room that feels like someone's living room. No pretense, just honest craft.

A place built slowly, with attention to what the land offers.

Philip Carter Vineyards & Wnry grew from a simple conviction: that the best wines start with patient vines, and the best bread starts with good flour and time. We planted our first estate vines on a sloping parcel just outside Richmond's historic corridor, and within a few years we were harvesting fruit that carried something unmistakable — the mineral lift of the James River valley, the warmth of our summer nights, the character of this specific patch of earth.

The wnry side of our name reflects the same philosophy applied to bread. We bake in small batches using naturally leavened starters, stone-milled flours, and recipes that change with the seasons. Some days you'll find a rustic rye; other days, a light olive-and-rosemary focaccia. The wines and the bread are made by the same hands, in the same building, because we believe they belong together.

Wines & Bakes from the Estate

Every bottle and every loaf carries the imprint of our terroir — the limestone soils, the river mist, the long Virginia autumns. Our selections change with each vintage and baking cycle.

Glass of deep red wine

Red Wine

Estate Merlot

Soft tannins, dark cherry, a whisper of cedar. A wine that opens slowly — like a conversation you don't want to end.

Vintage Release
Crusty artisan bread on a flour-dusted surface

Artisan Bread

Country Sourdough

Thick, crackling crust. An open crumb that tears cleanly. Our oldest starter, fed daily, gives it a tang that improves with age — just like the wine.

Baked Daily
Pale pink rosé wine in a glass

Rosé

Valley Rosé

Pale salmon, bright strawberry, a saline finish that makes you reach for another sip. Our most popular warm-weather pour.

Limited Release
Fresh focaccia with rosemary and sea salt

Artisan Bread

Rosemary Focaccia

From our own herb garden — coarse sea salt, olive oil from a local press, and rosemary picked that morning. Simple, generous, unforgettable.

Seasonal
White wine in a crystal glass

White Wine

James River Chardonnay

Medium body, ripe peach, a mineral edge that speaks of our limestone soils. Aged partially in barrel for texture, finished crisp for refreshment.

House Bakes

Seasonal Pastries

Things change daily — pear and almond tarts in autumn, lemon-ricotta scones in spring. Whatever we're making, it's made in-house that morning.
